KEN JENNINGS: Confessions of a Trivial Mind
BLOG

November 4, 2008

Unless you’re a felon or a Canadian (or both!) remember to vote today! Votey votey vote McVote. Also: please vote. You know what I’m thankful for on a day like today? The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. God bless America.

Here’s a little quiz I thought up while we were on vacation (well, and had to research on-line, thank you Metrobits.org). What world city’s trains or subways are you using if you hear the following announcements?

  1. “Zug nach Alexanderplatz. Einsteigen, bitte. Zurückbleiben, bitte!”
  2. “Please stand clear. Doors closing. Next stop, Town Hall. Get off at Town Hall for Queen Victoria Building and Darling Harbour.”
  3. “Ostorozhno, dveri zakryvayutsa – sleduyuschaya stantsiya Ploshchad Revolutsyii.”
  4. “Próxima estación: General San Martín.”
  5. “This is Adams and Wabash. Transfer to Green, Purple, and Brown Line trains at Adams and Wabash. This is an Orange line train to Midway.”
  6. “La STM vous souhaite la bienvenue à bord. Prochaine station, Jean-Drapeau.”
  7. “This is a 207th Street-bound A train. Canal Street is next. Stand clear of the closing doors, please.”
  8. “Lieche qianfang de chezhan shi Aolinpike Gongyuan. You zai Aolinpike Gongyuan xiache de chengke, qing nin tiqian zuo hao zhunbei. Aolinpike Gongyuan jiu yao dao le. The next station for this train is Olympic Green. Passengers alighting at Olympic Green, please get ready. We will soon be arriving at Olympic Green.”
  9. “Mind the gap between the train and the platform.”
  10. “Pròxima estació Sagrada Familia, enllaç amb línia cinc.”
