KEN JENNINGS: Confessions of a Trivial Mind
BLOG

November 11, 2008

I think I was probably in high school or college before it occurred to me that “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” has the same tune as two other nursery songs, “The Alphabet Song” and “Baa, Baa Black Sheep.”

Apparently Caitlin is a lot smarter than I was, because last night in the car she started singing, and this is what I heard:

A B C D E F G,
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
Up above the world so high,
W, X, Y, and Z.

It’s baby’s first mash-up!

Speaking of our youngest daughter: at the bookstore bash last night, I was a little alarmed when I turned and found Katie giggling and poking at a big black Rottweiler! Right in the middle of New In Paperback!

“Why, that’s just Good Dog Carl!” said an amused passerby. “You don’t know Good Dog Carl?”

I was embarrassed to say no, I don’t know Good Dog Carl from Bad Dog Cujo. I was especially embarrassed to find out that the woman standing right next to me was Carl’s owner/author. (Carl is apparently the protagonist of a popular series of children’s books. And he didn’t maul Caitlin no matter how much she pawed at him, so way to go, Carl! I hear that Marley and Me dog killed a mini-van full of toddlers once.)
