KEN JENNINGS: Confessions of a Trivial Mind
BLOG

October 28, 2009

Two things that occurred to me yesterday. One at my computer and one in my car.

Capitol Gain. Take the surname of a prominent U.S. senator. Move the first letter one letter towards the end of the alphabet (‘A’ becomes ‘B’, ‘Y’ becomes ‘Z’, etc.) to spell something that senators spend much of their time doing. Who’s the senator?

Out of Africa. The Thai place and the Korean place nearest to my home both have the name of a foreign country printed on its own small vertical sign below the name of the restaurant. Weirdly, it’s the same foreign country. Even more weirdly, it’s not an Asian country–in fact, it’s in Africa. Can you name the country without coming to my neighborhood and stalking me?

Edited to add: Solved within minutes.
