So I’ve just sold a proposal for a third book. It’s a kissing cousin to Brainiac, except that it will focus not just on trivia geeks, but on a particular subset of the species: map/geography geeks.

And, as with Brainiac, I go into this knowing next to nothing about the subculture–or even if there is such a thing as map subculture. So I wouldn’t mind crowdsourcing some of the early research here–are you, like me, a bit of a map lover? Do you, unlike me, know of communities for like-minded atlas fans?

Even boring answers (“There’s this great Yahoo! newsgroup where people post antique maps…”) are fine. But I’m also looking for geography-loving people and groups that are fun or unlikely-sounding in some way. Do you know someone who plays goofy GPS games like Minutewar? Did you read a piece about a guy on a quest to visit every country (or every Starbucks) in the world? I’d love to hear about it. Shoot me an email via the site or post something to the message boards.
