As we all know, my 2004 run on Jeopardy! was a source of great evil, in that it inspired some IBM R&D guys to teach a scheming supercomputer from the future to play Jeopardy! But it seems that my run also helped inspire some good in other souls: for example, the website Sporcle. With its simple, addictive game interface, and free catalog of thousands of (often ingenious) user-created games, Sporcle is the only trivia site I visit regularly.
When a local news team contacted me earlier in the summer about showing up while they visited a local startup, I was ready to say no, until they mentioned the local startup was…Sporcle. Are you kidding, a golden ticket to go behind-the-scenes at this chocolate factory of Internet trivia? Absolutely.
The Sporcle guys were very nice and gave me a t-shirt. You can watch my visit here.
