Questions Where The Answer Is In The Question

The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

That's pretty much the "Stupid Answers" category on Jeopardy!

What is the second largest permanent lake in Utah?

This is one isn't technically a question: It is the Stephen King novel where children are haunted all the way into adulthood by a clown named Pennywise.

Seemes like you could pad this out as needed with illeists.

  • In a famous interview with Mike Wallace, which artist praised surrealist Salvador Dali by declaring, "Dali is immortal and will not die"?
  • In the 1996 US Presidential election, who compared the trustworthiness of the major party candidates by suggesting, "If you had to leave your children with Bob Dole or Bill Clinton, I think you'd probably leave them with Bob Dole"?
  • In the Seinfeld episode The Jimmy, who warns Kramer that, "Jimmy's gonna get you, Kramer! Jimmy holds grudges!"?

I went to pub trivia last night, and one of the questions was:

In what European city was Florence Nightingale born?

That one works better because it has both right AND wrong answers in the question!

Hey, why wasn't Mama scary on "What's Happening!!" ?

Postby SMWinnie » Wed Oct 29, 2014 4:52 am

(HT to Linda Rodriguez McRobbie.)

In 1976, parents complained furiously when Margaret Hamilton played the Wicked Witch of the West...on an episode of Sesame Street. Many parents reported that their children had been traumatized and were refusing to watch Sesame Street any more.

Hamilton had appeared the previous year on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood without apparent objection, in a dress and hat reminiscent of her Wizard of Oz character's costume, but importantly not in the Wicked Witch's well-known green makeup.

Q: Traditionally, why do we expect witches to have eerie green skin?

No idea, but it's sure as heck better than the trend of sparkly vampires à la Twilight.

Today's question on my Jeopardy! desk calendar would more or less qualify if you change the wording. Essentially, it asks for the city that James Fenimore Cooper died in.

I seem to remember that the original Trivial Pursuit game had a question that was phrased something like this: Who told a Senate committee that "Billy Carter is not a buffoon, a boob, or a wacko."?

From Jeopardy! show #617 04/21/1987: "When he dies, the author of "Frisbee" wants his ashes mixed w/ polyethylene & made into these".
