Alphabet quickie

The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

Alphabet quickie

Things have kind of died out around here. Here's a simple puzzle I thought of just now.

Explain the reasoning behind dividing the English alphabet into these two groups:

A E F H I L M N O R S X

B C D G J K P Q T U V W Y Z

Of the numerals, only "8" would be in the first group. The other nine would be in the second group.

Ahhhh, good one. I looked at it twice and couldn't come up with anything. But with Bill's reply was able to work it out.

I thought about including the numerals, but I liked how it was relatively balanced without them. Nice first thought!

Very nice. I was completely mystified the first time, but now I get it.

For a brief moment, I thought maybe 1 should be in the same group as 8, but I guess really it shouldn't.

Speakers of Spanish or German would put 1 in the same group as 8.

What about zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, and seven?
