Pic Tac Toe: Winnie the Pooh Times Two

Postby jbenz » Fri May 05, 2017 12:32 pm

I tried to put together a Winnie the Pooh pic-tac-toe and it just kept going in different directions.

I ended up with two versions. Two themes show up in both.

If you're new here, there are 8 themes. Each row, column, and diagonal share some kind of visual theme.

These look really good. I'm impressed that your process went in two different directions and you were able to complete both.

I have some answers and some guesses behind spoiler text.

Version 1
Spoiler: show
Top Row: SAND/BEACH
Middle Row: COMPULSIVE SNACKERS? OR "THE" IN NAME? (Pizza the Hutt, Winnie-the-Pooh, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial)
Bottom Row: COOPER (Bradley, Mini, Winnie)

Left Column: SPACEBALLS (Eagle 5, Pizza the Hutt, Dark Helmet T-shirt)
Middle Column: CUCKOO CLOCK? (That took some research of image #2)
Right Column: 1980s NOSTALGIA? (Jane Fonda workout, E.T., The Wonder Years)

159 Diagonal: WINNIE (Winnebago, Winnie-the-Pooh, Winnie Cooper)
357 Diagonal: EXERCISING?

Version 2
Spoiler: show
Top Row: ?? (I couldn't identify Image 1. Fred Thompson? Kelsey Grammer?)
Middle Row: ARMS/WINGS UP? (Cardinals, Winnie-the-Pooh, Benny Rodriguez)
Bottom Row: SAVAGE (Macho Man Randy, Adam, Fred)

Left Column: RHYMES? (??, Stan the Man, Slim Jim)
Middle Column: SANDERS (Bernie, Sanders Home, Colonel)
Right Column: JETS (Former NY Jets coach Rex Ryan, Benny the Jet, NY Jets jacket)

159 Diagonal: WINNIE (Winnebago, Winnie-the-Pooh, Winnie Cooper)
357 Diagonal: RED TOP?

Again, mostly wordless. Though you probably needed words for Image 2 in Version 1.

Very nice!

The first image in the second puzzle is...

Spoiler: show
Winnebago Man

...which means that...

Spoiler: show
The left column shares its answer with the Riddle of the Sphinx.

I think the top row is just yelling.

The rest of Neel's answers look right to me.

Very good!

To clarify, the two overlapping themes were:

Spoiler: show
Winnie, as you said.

And names in this format: ___ the ___.

In Version 2, it is: Stan the Man, Winnie the Pooh, and Benny the Jet (rather than arms up).

The Version 1 right column is a little more specific:

Spoiler: show
Famous women of the 80s wearing stripes.

As for image 1 in Version 2: yeah, that might not have been as well known as I thought. It was a viral video that became a documentary called Winnebago Man. I highly recommend it.

Two pic-tac-toes and I didn't get to use the image I really wanted to:

Spoiler: show
Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz standing in the desert.

The original kernel (hey-o) for this puzzle was:

Sanders: Pooh, Bernie, Spaceballs Sandurz

Winnie: Pooh, Wonder Years, Spaceballs Winnebago

Feel the Burn (Bern): Bernie Sanders and Jane Fonda (who coined that phrase). Once I saw Jane in stripes, I knew I could find Winnie Cooper in stripes.

But alas, Spaceballs Sandurz had to be replaced with Spaceballs Pizza the Hut, and eventually it all came together.

And yes, the top row in Version 2 could definitely be:

Yelling, though I was thinking: angry old white men.
