More people with something in common, etc.

The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

More people with something in common, etc.

With great care I have selected and presented six people who share something very specific in common. Can you add others?

This is a tough one. I don't think I have it, but here's a guess:

I think you have it.

Spoiler: show
Rumor has it that he didn't have to audition to play the replacement lead in xXx: State of the Union. He just showed up and they said, "You have what we need."

Not sure if I have it, but if you sell property in southern Louisiana, maybe you would count both of these people?

I'm sure you have it.

Spoiler: show
I'll call your real pair and raise you. Fictional, but three of a kind:

Okay, based on the clue JBenz gave, I did have it.

I'm perplexed. It seems like it must have something to do with
Spoiler: show
abbreviations, possibly government abbreviations

but I feel like it's probably more specific than that and that I may be missing something.

Keeping it simple this time. You should be able to zip through this one. Add as many people -- real or fictional -- as you like.

I'm really puzzled. I'm guessing that it has to do with
Spoiler: show
the people's names

Let's make sure I know who all the people are. I believe they are
Spoiler: show
Ira Glass, Bo Jackson
Rainn Wilson, Rico Rodriguez
Vin Scully, Peta Wilson

Ice Cube (born O'Shea Jackson)

Mia Hamm, Nomar Garciaparra

I notice some first names that are also abbreviations or acronyms. I also notice a couple of surnames ending in "son" that are also presidential surnames. I also notice an allusion to another "Vin" (Vin Diesel) in one of the comments.

I also looked up some information on some of these people and I discovered that both Bo Jackson and Vin Scully have the given names "Vincent Edward", but I don't know if that's just a coincidence.

I had to look up the members of 10cc but I believe this is another example of someone with an unusual first name that's also an abbreviation.

"Some"?

Spoiler: show
The Presidential surnames and pair of Vincent Edward men are coincidences. And I like how O'Shea almost qualifies.

This is all over the place in terms of character names / real names / first names / last names... but hopefully it makes sense in this thread.

I'm still confused. I think the most recent picture has to do with
Spoiler: show
three-letter airport codes. That also works for Mia Hamm (as I know, living where I do) but doesn't seem to work for everyone mentioned earlier in the thread.

I looked it up and I learned that VIN is the three-letter code for a certain airport in the Ukraine, but that seems kind of obscure and is therefore probably not what was meant.

ANSWER follows.

Spoiler: show
Every person listed in this thread has a first name that is also some kind of abbreviation (acronym, initialism, whatever). That's it.

IRA Glass: Irish Republican Army, Individual Retirement Account, etc.
BO Jackson: Box Office, Body Odor, etc.
RAINN Wilson: Rape Abuse & Incest National Network
RICO Rodriguez: Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act
VIN Scully: Vehicle Identification Number
PETA Wilson: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
ICE Cube: Immigration and Customs Enforcement, In Case of Emergency, etc.
MIA Hamm: Missing In Action, Miami International Airport, etc.
NOMAR Garciaparra: New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Realtors
BART Simpson: Bay Area Rapid Transit
LISA Simpson: Life Insurance Settlement Association (and a bunch of other obscurities)
MOE Szyslak: Molecular Operating Environment (and a bunch of other obscurities)
LOL Creme: Laugh Out Loud
EULA Biss: End User License Agreement

Originally -- in 2013, when I first came up with this puzzle idea -- I was trying to restrict it to organizations and other groups of people, which was "very specific" and also too difficult. Part of the problem, as you can see above, is that the same acronym can mean different things. Those younger than me may have no idea that IRA can refer to a group of people.

In hindsight, I should have left out the words "very specific" in the original inquiry. I was too focused on sneaking an acronym into every sentence I wrote in non-spoiler text: CARE, ADD, IT, SIMPLE, ZIP, and so on.

Sorry about that. I just figured an easy unused puzzle was better than no puzzle.

I wasn't thinking much about airport codes at ALL, but the map from jbenz was interesting to do. I SOLVE, clockwise:

Spoiler: show
FAT Amy (Rebel Wilson): Fresno, CA
Big BOI: Boise, ID
LEX Luthor (Gene Hackman): Lexington, KY
Charlie DAY: Dayton, OH
RIC Flair: Richmond, VA
JAX from Mortal Kombat (?): Jacksonville, FL
MIA Hamm: Miami, FL
Lance ITO: Hilo, HI
JAN Michael Vincent: Jackson, MS

Before I caught on to the airport code theme, I thought Ric Flair represented Rhode Island College. I was going to suggest putting this guy right next to him:

Yep, those are all correct, including...

Spoiler: show
JAX from Mortal Kombat. He had cool metal arms.
