Describe a movie / TV show briefly, and make it sound boring

The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

Describe a movie / TV show briefly, and make it sound boring

Postby skullturfq » Fri May 18, 2012 8:53 am

These examples are taken from various commenters on a recent thread on this topic at Reddit.

"A group of people fall asleep several times"

"A group of guys went for a long walk so one of them could return a piece of bad jewelry"

"Group of people hang out and do random things instead of studying"

"Man lives in a phonebooth. Invites people (mostly women) into it, promising to show them the 'wonders of the universe'."

"Some kids go and play in a closet"

"A guy takes more than seven years to tell his kids why they exist"

For "Group of people who do random things instead of studying", I thought it was The Breakfast Club.

I was trying to think what would exclude The Breakfast Club from the clue. I came up with: Community is based around a study group, they are supposed to be studying; in TBC they are not supposed to be studying, they're supposed to be sitting doing absolutely nothing all day.

I was thinking Harry Potter, but I guess they did do SOME studying at Hogwarts.

Actually, without the qualifier "students," "Group of people who do random things instead of studying" could be literally anything not a one-person show. "The Longest Day"; "Singing in the Rain"; "Dangerous Liaisons" -- all people doing things but not studying. Unless the point is the absurdist randomness of Community, in which case only "The Longest Day" qualifies.

Again, the point of mentioning that they're not studying is that they are supposed to be studying. If the people in The Longest Day were successful in studying, D-Day would've been a miserable failure.

Could you have a duller description of an episode than "One member of a study group loses a pen", yet have a funnier episode?

That's still one of my very favorites.
