In my copy, July 21st, Battlefield Mirth,

I'm pretty sure the answer of "Frances Marion" should be "Francis Marion."
Note that both are famous people.

Error on Maphead quiz at the end of book.

Postby mh » Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:41 am

Hey, I really enjoyed your book, Maphead. It is the most memorable and fun book I've read in the past few years. So, I feel a little bad mentioning what I believe is a mistake in the quiz. Perhaps you've already been made aware of it, or perhaps I'm mistaken. I can't imagine I'd be the only one to catch it. ...but, what can I say? It's been bothering me, and I figured if I mention it, maybe I'll get some peace-of-mind on the matter.

So here goes:

Question #21 in the quiz at the end of "Maphead" states: Name any one of the Lesser Antilles, or "ABC Islands," in the Caribbean Sea.

I believe that the Lesser Antilles include more than just the ABC Islands. The ABC Islands refer only to Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, which are part of the Lesser Antilles. However, you question makes it sound as if the terms "Lesser Antilles" and "ABC Islands" refer to exactly the same thing. Perhaps the question could simply be worded more clearly.

Thanks again for your work on the book.
-- A Fan who grew up in the Greater Antilles

P.S. If my observation is correct, do I get a couple of bonus points on the quiz? Perhaps I can obtain the vaunted "Certified Maphead" level rather than having to settle for being a lowly Sensei of Direction? javascript:emoticon(':D') Of course, if I'm wrong I might lose points for bothering the quiz maker, and tumble down to Cartographically clever, which obviously I wouldn't be.

You had improper dates for the term of office in another post. However, for a piece on debunking, you present dates that can be misleading, at

Perhaps you used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch for the peak dates of Witch hunts, 14th - 17th centuries. However, witch executions happed long before, and since. A Roman statesman famously disavowed the notion of witches, for example.

Trivia question: when & where was the last execution for witchcraft? Hint: Europe, decade will do. (Avoids undocumented executions in the jungle, for example) More hints: Wikipedia doesn't have this. BBC gets this wrong:

The Guardian mentions imprisonment, but not execution:

Good luck!
