Video Music Award/Academy Award Question

Postby DaveS » Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:21 am

Madonna also has an Academy Award and an MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography. She won the VMA for "Ray of Light" in 1998, and the Academy Award in 1997 for "Best Original Song in a Film" for "You Must Love Me" from Evita.

Maybe so, but no one's ever confused her for an actor... ;)

ac·tor /ˈæktər/ –noun 1. a person who acts in stage plays, motion pictures, television broadcasts, etc.
2. a person who does something; participant.

I'm pretty sure that she IS considered a "person." And she's appeared in more motion pictures than, oh, say, Prince.

My OP was...

sar·casm (sär'kāz'əm)
n.

1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound.
2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.

Sorry, I was anticipating the actor/actress distinction to be made and had prepared myself... when I read your post I read it literally without even noticing "Mr. Winkie" at the end of the line.

"Mr. Winkie" of course is the winking smiley face ... but jeez if that doesn't remind me of a line from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective"....

My apologies again.

I'd say Madonna's an actor, but that's not relevant here. She did sing "You Must Love Me," but the singer doesn't win the Oscar. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice won, for writing the song.

Madonna has never even been nominated for an Oscar.

Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics) won the Oscar for the song. Performers aren't nominated (unless of course they had a hand in the music or lyrics).

ETA: What Ken said.

In a similar vein, did Christopher Walken actually win a VMA, or did he just appear in the video?

Edited to add: MTV does/did indeed credit Walken as a winner in this category:
