The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

"You’re a bright young man. You would have made a good lawyer and I would have loved to have you practice in front of me, but you went another way, partner."

i looked this up and was surprised to discover that the speaker was outlived by person spoken to.

Ken is close. It's somebody charismatic who did bad things.

The answer can be found by googling, but I can also give further hints if needed, or provide the answer in white text.

It's somebody who was born in Vermont, died in Florida, but spent time in several western states as well.

I see where you're going with that. Yep, you're thinking of the right person.

The above words were spoken to serial killer Ted Bundy by Edward Cowart, the judge at Bundy's trial.

Here's another "who said it" type of question.

Who said the following words?

"Don't know the manners of good society, eh? Well, I guess I know enough to turn you inside out, old gal; you sockdologizing old man-trap!"

Here are some hints, if you need them:

(1) It was said by a fictional character.

(2) The work in question was composed and performed in the 1800s.

(3) Perhaps my question should be "What happened right after those words were said?"

This one I actually know. I guess it's hard to forget an awesome word like "sockdologizing."

True, but some things can just pass right through your brain.

What? Too soon?

147 years (give or take a few hours) is probably long enough.

Ah, that one is easy. Everyone gets married.

Although there was this one performance where an actor (not even one of the cast) delivered a poorly-received ad-lib in Latin.

Essentially the same question was used in Tuesday Trivia XIII. However, I still have no idea who spoke the words. I know the circumstances under which the words were spoken, but that doesn't mean I know the speaker's name.

Good point. Yeah, my question really shouldn't be "who said those words". I looked it up the other day, but I've already forgotten the actor's name and the character's name.

I know the title of the play, though. I suppose that's a fairly standard trivia fact.

Is sockdologizing sock-puppetry with no strings attached?

For completeness: "Halfway through Act III, Scene 2, the character of Asa Trenchard, played that night by Harry Hawk, utters a line, considered one of the play's funniest, to Mrs. Mountchessington: 'Don't know the manners of good society, eh? Well, I guess I know enough to turn you inside out, old gal — you sockdologizing old man-trap.' "

I was in my booth in the theater and when they said that line, it gave me a headache.

With all this hinting, I feel like I should be honest by linkin' to an answer.
